Deborah L. Cochelin is certified by the Supreme Court of South Carolina as a civil court mediator, and is the founder and principal of a law practice concentrating in elder law, estate planning, probate administration, and personal injury. She has served as a neutral in hundreds of court-appointed probate, elder, and settlement guardian ad litem matters, some of which have included participating in mediations.
Deborah has served on the Elder Law Committee of the South Carolina Bar since its inception, currently serves as a member of the South Carolina Bar’s Article 5 Task Force seeking to reform certain South Carolina guardianship and conservatorship statutes, and was active with the South Carolina Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She has been a speaker at Continuing Legal Education seminars and conferences on topics related to estate planning and guardianships, and has worked as a volunteer in several programs directly involving individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Deborah has also assisted staff counsel of a major national insurance company with preparation of materials to train its claims adjusters handling minors’ personal injury settlements.
